First, appologize for my English. Having tried to write something about my goodie while comparing them to all those gorgeous reviews and session reports here, I have to admit that the best try I could bet is to make myself technically understood but no way literarily or thematically interesting.So, this time, I'm going to talk about my homemade retheme from the technical point of view - what I've changed from the original game (besides the art from the PC game).
Here're two pictures of my retheme(now with the expansion), in the scenario equivalent to V's Quest. I've remade almost everything comparing to the previous version I posted several months ago.
1. Basic and Advanced Actions ==> Items
They are revised to basic and advanced Items here.
Nothing changed beside the art. I tried to add effect-illustrating icons on several cards but found it over-complicated to do so on all Item/Action cards and gave it up.
2. Spells
For this catagory, I managed to add icons to illustrate their effects (at least partly), as well as insert art for each spell.
3. Skills
Skill tokens are now small cards, with their original icon set on the top, the skill name in the middle with descriptions and art below.
Looking up in a reference card/sheet is always troublesome and I'd like to avoid it wherever possible.
4. Units ==> Followers
Units(rethemed to Followers) are also small cards now. This change save desktop space significantly.
Some regular follower (placed in front of the follower deck holder):
and some elite ones (placed behind the holder):
* Oh, those 'Catapults' are from the old version. Those images are now used for Heroes.
* Those name card holders save desk space, too. And they make the offer area neater.
Here are some sample Followers under Zhao Lin-Er(Norowas)'s command.
Yes, all Followers are icon-illustrated, too.
And I created special Wound tokens for Followers. See pictures in the next section.
5. Artifacts (Banners ==> Mantras)
Banners are now Mantras. Note that its topleft icon is also changed.
Another improvement I've made to Mantras is adding a set of icons on the right side of its description. You may play a Mantra under a Follower and still tell what it is easily by those illustrations.
You won't have difficulties guessing what these two Artifacts are, will you?
6. Description cards & Cities
Site description cards are made foldable with labels, so that it is easier to flip to the page you want. And, as I've mentioned before, the card on move costs was removed and replaced with a summary of refreshing rules to all offers.
City 'miniatures' are the most discontented part to me. Yes, it has a gyro wheel inside to rotate for level 1 to 11. But the overall looking just isn't that appealing...
7. Volkare
Volkare's deck is also included in a double-deck name card stand, with a backcover for both illustrating and hiding the bottommost card, as all other deck stands.
Behind the stand there are a deck for secondary skill set (for solo), his chosen tactic. Way behind them there are my used tactics (square cards).
8. Fame board and offer areas
The fame&reputation board, day/night board and various kinds of offer areas as well as their corresponding decks are placed on a side table.
The fame and reputation board might looks garish. But one who is familiar with the prototyping PC game won't say so. It records the track a player experiences exactly throughout the game. Sorry for my little stubbornness here.
A pair of mini miniatures for each player is used on the fame and reputation tracks respectively, replacing the shield tokens.
Recently I made a holder/stand dual-purpose solution for all tokens. The holder shortens my time when packing/unpacking various tokens. Note that my skill tokens are revised to small-size cards thus not included here.
